NCEDC Welcomes New Board Members

Loveland, Colorado (Corrected: June 7, 2013) –The Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation (NCEDC) has appointed two new members to its Board of Directors.  Michael Lang from Westwood Professional Services was recently appointed by the NCEDC Board to fill a board seat vacated earlier this year.  Mark Bradley was appointed as an ex-officio member by the NCEDC Board. 

“We are excited to welcome individuals to the Board that have a commitment to regional economic development, stated NCEDC Board Chair Donna Smith. Mark and Michael bring the kind of experience and leadership that will add a tremendous value to the organization.”

Michael Lang is the Regional Director/Office Manager of Westwood Professional Services located in Loveland.  A lifelong resident of northern Colorado, Michael opened the Colorado office for Westwood in 2010 and continues to be responsible for the daily operations of the Loveland office. With a growing staff of 15 people, Michael coordinates clients, projects, services and marketing within the mountain states region.  Westwood specializes in land and energy development services serving clients from offices throughout the U.S. 

Mark Bradley is the managing broker of Realtec-Greeley, a commercial real estate brokerage firm serving Northern Colorado.  He manages a team of commercial real estate professionals, assisting clients lease and sell all types of commercial real estate: industrial, office, retail and land.  Mark is also currently President of the Northern Colorado Commercial Association of Realtors (NCCAR) and will be representing the association on the NCEDC Board. 

Consisting of 25 NCEDC investors and Larimer County stakeholders representing a cross-section of the region’s industries and communities, the Board of Directors oversees NCEDC’s budget and guides strategic goals to improve and expand the region’s economic competitiveness and industry base.

Steve Witt named CEO of OptiEnz Sensors to Accelerate Company To Commercialization

Steve Witt has been named CEO of OptiEnz Sensors, LLC, a spinoff from Colorado State University and an Innosphere Client Company. OptiEnz Sensors is a local startup company developing biosensors for continuous monitoring of organic chemicals in food and beverage processing, industrial fermentations, and water supplies. OptiEnz already has a prototype for continuous monitoring that is being tested in a variety of settings, and with a new CEO onboard, the company is immediately focusing on customer trials.

“Steve brings an ideal blend of technical and business expertise, along with experience in large and small companies.  With Steve on board, we can really accelerate our progress toward commercialization,” said Ken Reardon, CTO and co-founder of OptiEnz Sensors and a Colorado State professor of chemical and biological engineering. “Steve joins the company with extensive leadership experience and vast knowledge of the test and measurement industry.” OptiEnz’s prototype for continuous monitoring is in customer trials in two primary markets: industrial control processes and environmental water monitoring.

OptiEnz Sensors, LLC creates devices that allow users to continuously measure the concentration of organic chemicals in water, and the technology can be used in a wide range of applications such as monitoring for pollutants in a river, detecting contaminants in ground water, optimizing the production of pharmaceuticals, or tracking the level of sugar during fermentation processes. OptiEnz biosensors are placed directly in the stream or reaction vessel, so there is no need for someone to painstakingly remove samples, send them to a laboratory and wait hours or days for results.  This allows their customers to get the information they need rapidly so they can optimize their process and quickly take corrective actions.

“OptiEnz is a great company and I’m excited to lead us toward commercialization,” said Witt. “CSU Ventures has been very supportive of the company. They’ve enabled us to put two patents in place and we have six more pending. Being a client company of the Innosphere has also set up a great ecosystem for us. There’s a lot of entrepreneurial energy that comes with being surrounded by other high-caliber startups. Working with the SAGE advisors and getting help from the Innosphere’s access to capital have been especially important for us.”

Witt has worked in several entrepreneurial roles including Vice President of Business Development for Constant Wave, an early stage company in Colorado Springs. Some of Witt’s other positions have included President of Compressor Controls Corporation, a global business which delivers solutions for turbo-machinery control applications in the oil and gas industry, and Vice President and General Manager for Agilent Technologies in Colorado Springs, developing and delivering telecommunication test equipment.

Woodward Announces New Headquarters and Business Operations Campus

in Fort Collins, Colorado

Fort Collins, Colo., April 26, 2013

today that it intends to acquire in the near future a corporate campus site for its global

headquarters and selected business group operations in Fort Collins, Colorado. The

acquisition decision was made after extensive work with the City of Fort Collins to plan

the site and to obtain necessary approvals for its intended use. The Colorado Office of

Economic Development and Colorado Economic Development Commission arranged

important business assistance associated with planned new jobs and investment and the

Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation provided valuable site

selection assistance.

Responding to growing worldwide demand for its energy-saving and emissionsreducing

control systems, components and services, Woodward requires additional

capacity. The new Colorado site will be acquired for the future construction of facilities

to meet growing customer demand.

The downtown Fort Collins site, adjacent to the Poudre River and its 21-mile

recreational trail, is within walking distance of the community’s dynamic “Old Town”

historic area—a popular Northern Colorado destination for shopping and entertainment.

Colorado State University, a longtime Woodward partner in energy technology

development, is a short drive away. A key consideration in the selection of the site was

the ability to leverage Woodward’s investment and employment on the new campus to

help achieve long term planning goals of the Fort Collins community, particularly for

the Old Town area.

Brinkman Partners Hires Director of Real Estate Management and Finance

We have some great news to share! Loveland Water and Power is one of 184 of the nation’s more than 2,000 public power utilities to earn Reliable Public Power Provider (RP₃^®)[1] recognition from the American Public Power Association for providing consumers with the highest degree of reliable and safe electric service.  Brent McKinney, manager, electric transmission and distribution at City Utilities of Springfield, Mo., and chair of APPA’s RP₃ Review Panel, presented the designees on March 25 during the association’s annual Engineering & Operations Technical Conference held in Kissimmee, Fla.

The RP₃ designation recognizes public power utilities that demonstrate proficiency in four key disciplines: reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement.  Criteria within each category are based on sound business practices and represent a utility-wide commitment to safe and reliable delivery of electricity.

“RP₃ utilities are shining examples of reliable and forward-thinking public power utilities,” said McKinney, “These 90 designees should be extremely proud of this accomplishment and what it means for their communities.”

This is the eighth year that RP₃ recognition has been offered.  APPA is the national organization representing more than 2,000 non-profit, community- and state- owned electric utilities.  It is located in Washington, D.C.

Campus Flats @ Ram’s Crossing Coming in May
