Lehman Communications Announces New Printing Plant

LOVELAND, Colorado, November 5, 2007 – The Northern Colorado Economic Development Corporation (NCEDC) is pleased to announce Lehman Communications’ plans to move the printing of the Daily Reporter-Herald and a significant share of their commercial printing for publications outside our region, to a new $20 million production facility in Berthoud, CO. The 60,000 square foot plant will have state-of-the-art press and inserting equipment and will retain and create jobs for close to 90 area residents earning more than $2.1 million in annual wages and salaries.

“Our office has been working with Editor and General Manager Ken Amundson at the Reporter Herald for quite some time and are excited about their expansion in Berthoud,” said Maury Dobbie, President & CEO of the NCEDC. “It’s been a pleasure working with Jim White and other city officials in Berthoud as they add a new primary employer. As always, it takes a team of organizations and entities to cooperatively work together. At NCEDC’s annual lunch last week, we announced the NCEDC influenced 820 primary jobs in 2007 and now will be adding another 86 primary jobs in Larimer County.”

According to an economic impact analysis completed by the NCEDC through Colorado State University’s Regional Economist Martin Shields, newly hired employees at the Berthoud plant will create an additional $277,000 in spending annually for local businesses and the economy. The largest single area receiving money will be transportation, notably vehicle purchases. This is followed closely by housing then food and alcohol which include restaurants and groceries.

Longmont based Lehman Communication Corp. publishes the Reporter-Herald, the Longmont Daily Times-Call, the Lafayette News, Erie Review, Louisville Times and Superior Observer in Northern Colorado. Lehman’s commercial printing division also prints the Northern Colorado Business Report, Denver Business Journal and other publications in the multi-state region. The Reporter-Herald has a daily circulation of approximately 17,588 and 18,082 for the Sunday edition.
